April Murtha- Owner/Attorney (she/her)

April is dedicated to working towards getting justice for you, whatever that looks like for your situation.  We understand that what may feel like "justice" for one person is not the same for the next. April Murtha knows that sometimes negotiating the best outcome possible is all a client wants, while other times proceeding straight to trial is the only option.

April joined the great state of Colorado back in 1998 where she enrolled at Colorado State University.  After graduation April worked at a couple of law offices in Colorado to determine if the legal field was a good fit and also to determine what areas of law were the right fit. Once she started working with a top  firm on the Western Slope,  April found her niche and the rest is history.

April graduated from Drake University Law School in 2011 with a specialization in Litigation (trial skills). In April’s final year of law school she focused on honing her trial skills and learning real world applications so that she could hit the ground running and be the best attorney she could be for her clients upon graduation. In doing that April completed two judicial internships which gave her insight into the inner workings of judicial decisions and taught her important lessons on how to best present herself and her clients to the Court. Additionally, that year April was the only law student in the Drake Law Criminal Defense Clinic to successfully request, argue for, and obtain a Court Order which required the state to pay for an expert at no expense to the defense. Following that April was also the only Drake Law Criminal Defense clinic student to represent a client at trial for the year 2010-2011. As a result of all of this April was honored with the Robert J. Kromminga award for her excellence and dedication in representing her clients.

After graduation she happily returned to Colorado as a Public Defender with the Colorado Public Defender's Office.  While with the Public Defender's Office April spent 5 years in Jefferson County defending adults and juveniles charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses.  She’s tried a large number of cases in front of juries and Judges, but also negotiated hundreds of others to fair resolutions.  This allowed her to not only sharpen her trial advocacy skills, but also to forge positive, professional relationships with the other players in the criminal justice field. These relationships allow April to negotiate the best outcome for her clients.  Eventually, April left the Public Defender's office and joined a private firm in downtown Denver and did a little bit of everything.  After a couple of years she moved on and formed AM Law, LLC with the goal of combining the unmatched trial  and negotiation skills of the Public Defenders with her desire to ensure personal attention and representation to every one of her clients.

When April is not in the office she enjoys spending time with her family, exploring Colorado's many open spaces via horseback, reading a good book,  and giving back to her community.  April is active in coaching youth soccer and is a proud Arvada Rotarian.
